1. they don't trust you with the information - that you will give out the information to someone whom they don't want to know
2. they don't trust you with the information - that you will misuse it in some way
3. they are not sure if you are telling the truth, so they play safe not to get on the wrong side of the information transaction
4. they trust you, but they do not want to tell you because they think it somehow puts them in bad light
5. they trust you, but they think the information is irrelevant to you and do not want to say no
6. they are plain mean and want to get the info from you without divulging their cards

7. They want to trap you into lying & making a fool out of yourself.
8. They just want to lie, for the fun of it.
9. They are habituated to tell lies & in a conversation mired with lies, it becomes too late to retract to the honest opinion.
10. They lie to enjoy the three after effects of a lie, the freckles, the blurts & the head laugh. (you'll know if u are a "Coupling" fan)
11. They are compulsive liars.
12. They have watched too much Dr. House to know that 'everybody lies' so why not them?
13. They are lawyers.
14. They are financial advisors :)
